The Developers Behind Project CARS 2
There are many factors that go into running a successful VR Arcade, and offering premium content is certainly near the top of the list. It is very important that an Arcade owner is familiar with their library, and have a carefully curated library of high-end VR experiences to have a successful VR Arcade. We sat down with Slightly Mad Studios to discuss their VR title, Project CARS 2, to learn how they created a high-end game that has fared well in the out-of-home VR space.
About Project CARS 2
Project CARS 2 is all about the thrill of intense racing, in awesome cars, surrounded by beautiful views. The authentic handling, changing weather, and large number of game modes makes the gamer feel like they’re really there. Race through all four seasons of weather in wind, rain, and snow that guarantee every race is a new and exciting challenge. The incredibly well designed aesthetic and authenticity of the game makes it racing fun for everyone!
History of Project CARS 2
Slightly Mad Studios is the development team behind many successful automotive video games such as the, GTR® series, Need For Speed® Shift™ & Shift 2 Unleashed®. With over ten years of experience in racing games, Project CARS 2 is a culmination of all those games and the history behind them. Before Project CARS 2 was a VR game, it was a video game designed for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox. Even on these devices, it was said to be one of the most realistic racing games available. The VR version exceeds itself, and is one of the most realistic VR experiences that a VR Arcade can offer.
Strategy and Purpose Behind Project CARS 2
The Project CARS franchise is about creating the most visceral, accurate, and fun racing game in the world. Getting behind the wheel of the most sought after and beautifully simulated supercars of today, as well as epic race cars from today and yesterday, all on stunningly recreated real-world tracks with real-world weather, is truly a special experience - particularly in VR. Driving cars that you’ve only ever seen on TV or the Internet - actually getting inside them and living the experience of driving the wheels off them - that’s a special experience.
Benefits for VR Arcades and Operators
Project CARS 2 is a great location-based VR game due to the type of short, fun, and intensive gameplay action. VR, in so many ways, is perfectly suited for the racing genre. Being able to sit in a car and see it precisely as it is in real life, and experience the same physics people are accustomed to from real-life, within a VR-setting, makes it ideal for location-based VR entertainment. Then add the adrenaline and fun of racing against friends and others, along with the whole competitive element - there’s really nothing more adept to creating a great experience than Project CARS 2.
Gameplay Tips and Tricks
- Take advantage of the Race Engineer who will ask questions about how the car is handling and feeling, and will tune things on the car to the advantage of the player.
- Every car is different in Project CARS 2, so it is important to test drive them all to see what is the best fit for you.
- Pick the right tire. If it’s dry, use slick tires. If it’s raining, use wet tires. Use soft tires if you are looking for faster lap times, but remember they give out quicker.
- Don’t floor it. It’s not about speed, but rather controlling and figuring out when to speed up or slow down.
- Practicing each track on your own will help tremendously. When it comes to racing, knowing each track so you know when to slow down for a turn or when to speed up is the key to victory.
Why VR Customers Love It
Project CARS 2 gives every customer the chance to get behind the wheel of that sweet race car they’ve always dreamed of. And with the amazing visuals it feels like real life. It provides the opportunity to practice making those sharp turns, or to battle it out with a friend in an intense race. The developers behind the game even gave some advice for those sharp corners:
“…slow in, fast out. It isn’t how fast you go into a corner that makes you faster - it’s how fast you come out of a corner. So slow down and you’ll be a lot faster.”
Overall this game is fun, exciting, great for all ages, and a great fit for every Arcade operator looking to add some variety to their VR Arcade.
