Virtual Reality Day 2018 — Be a Part

Features/Announcements

October 26, 2018 | 5 min read

The 2nd Annual Global Virtual Reality Day Will Take Place Saturday, November 17th

Virtual Reality Day is a series of VR/AR events organized worldwide to help virtual and augmented reality become more mainstream. Any individual, company, or organization can host a free public VR/AR event and become part of the Virtual Reality Day phenomenon. This is a completely voluntary and grassroots effort. It’s about bringing the energy and interests of the greater community together, and focusing that energy for the benefit of everyone on one special day.

How it Works for VR Arcades

For VR Arcades, this can be a focused day of educating around virtual reality, and connecting with the local community. At the bare minimum, the event organizers want people to be able to come to locations and have an experience in VR for free. This could look like offering free demos (which hopefully will turn into upsells), having a dedicated station all day, doing an “educational event” for a window of time, partnering with local EDU institutions, etc. The goal is to get the public more aware of VR and to get more people into headsets.

To Participate

Joining is pretty simple, although due to the limited bandwidth of the organizing team… there is a limit to the number of locations for this year’s event. To participate, we suggest you dedicate 1 station for offering free demos, and one dedicated employee there to help, answer questions, and educate people about VR.

If you would like to participate you can sign up here, or email the hosts of VR Day at [email protected].

Why Participating is Worth It

According to the organizers, this event is growing rapidly year over year and might be worth considering. Why does this make sense for VR Arcades? For one, this is an event designed to get more people interested and aware about the incredible potential of VR. Second, as this event grows, this is a great awareness booster for your location. Hopefully you’ll see an uptick in traffic. Third, the organizers are doing national and local PR as well as helping individual locations with marketing. (Including marketing assets, PR recommendations and managing an eventbright page for you.)

Top Titles to Demo

Not sure what titles are best for free demos? Below are some of our recommendations!

Beat Saber is a VR rhythm game where your goal is to slash the beats which perfectly fit into precisely handcrafted music.

1 Round of Mad Factory

In Mad Factory you’re the new hire in the universe’s finest cookie factory–and you’ve got orders to fill! See who can make, bake and frost the most cookies and reach the top of the leaderboard! Can you keep your cool and deliver the goods in this addictive VR experience?
